    Baker’s Yeast - Why?

Almost everything found in baker’s yeast is also found in humans, therefore, is well suited to making certain types of human proteins. Furthermore, yeast can be harnessed as tiny, efficient factories for producing biopharmaceuticals. Generally regarded as safe (GRAS), baker’s yeast can be grown on animal-free media with just sugar, water and salts. More than 20 biopharmaceutical products have been approved using baker’s yeast as the manufacturing organism.
